Director, Film Independent Artist Development

As Director of Artist Development at Film Independent, Josh Welsh oversees the Filmmaker Labs and Project:Involve mentorship program and works with filmmakers who receive cash grants from Film Independent. Committed to cultivating writers, directors, and producers with strong, original voices, the Talent Development programs provide filmmakers with the opportunity to develop their new work in a nurturing yet challenging creative environment. Films developed in the Labs include Amreeka, Circumstance, Natural Selection, and Kabluey, among many others.

Welsh also oversees the Fast Track film financing market that takes place during the Los Angeles Film Festival. This highly selective program is open to established as well as up-and-coming filmmakers with exceptional projects still seeking funding. Projects that have gone through the program include After Innocence, Amreeka, Four Sheets to the Wind,Frozen River, Miss Navajo, Natural Selection and On the Ice.
