Film Independent champions the cause of independent film and supports a community of artists who embody diversity, innovation, and uniqueness of vision.

Who We Are

Film Independent is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping independent filmmakers get their films made, building the audience for independent film, and increasing diversity in the film industry. Though we are based out of Los Angeles, our community is 4,000 members strong with an international reach. You can join and support the cause anytime; our membership dues are only $95 a year. What We Do

Making a movie is hard. Film Independent can help. We have cameras and casting rooms to rent, an incredible resource library with computers, sample budget and business plans and every conceivable film periodical. We offer our members over 120 free screenings and 150 educational events every year.

Then there's our Filmmaker Labs and Project:Involve, our free year-round talent development programs (participants must apply). And we produce two premier events: the Spirit Awards in February and the Los Angeles Film Festival in June.
